Thanks for considering joining Play NC’s Board of Directors! I am looking for specific roles, skills, and experience, but the only hard requirement is that you love the “Play for Charity” concept.

Here are the specific skills and experiences that would help the most:

Financial Advisor

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Grant Applications
    • Donation Processing and Receiving
    • Non-profit Taxes and Financials
  • Navigate financial obstacles and advise on the best methods for a non-profit to collect, process, and increase donated funds.
  • Assist with identifying, applying, and receiving grants and donations.

Treasurer

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • QuickBooks / Accounting Software
    • Financial Reporting
  • Create annual financial reports and projections for the following year.
  • Provide oversight on spending and payment distributions.
  • Direct Play NC finances to ensure they are used to meet stated goals.

Marketing

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Social Media
    • Writing / Illustrating
    • Online Marketing
  • Work with Board to determine methods, messaging, and goals of customer outreach.
  • Post weekly newsletters and social media posts.
  • Establish Play NC’s online presence outside of Facebook.
  • Work with Media Specialist to ensure content matches Play NC’s marketing goals.

Media Specialist

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Photo/Video Editing
    • Film/Movie Background
    • Sports Photography
  • Coordinate projects for all media content at Play NC games and events.
  • Establish best practices for turning raw event audio/video/photos into usable content.
  • Work with Marketing to effectively distribute your content to promote Play NC.

Non-Profit Outreach

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Volunteer Coordination
    • Project/Event Management
    • Existing Non-Profit Relationships
  • Coordinate communications and events with charity representatives.
  • Work with Marketing to identify and promote Partner Events.

For-Profit Outreach

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Soliciting Donations
    • Managing Sponsorships
    • Existing For-Profit Relationships
  • Coordinate communications and events with charity representatives.
  • Work with Marketing to identify and promote Partner Events.

These roles are going to be semi-fluid, with multiple members of the Board helping with various aspects of each role. In addition to participating in Board meetings and working on special projects, you will also be expected to take leadership of at least one aspect or event in Play NC’s charitable programming every year.

I want this extra task to be an opportunity for individuals to take ownership of an idea, concept, or program they have wanted to start by allowing them a platform to make it happen. If you have ever wanted to host your own donation drive, be commissioner of a sports league, organize your own community event, or create any type of fun event that would benefit the public, Play NC will provide the structure and support to make it real.

Board positions are unpaid volunteer positions, including my own. The expected time commitment is 1 to 3 hours per week during off-seasons and 4 to 8 hours per week during events or at the start of new seasons. I hope to find individuals to join our Board who get excited about playing games, helping charities, and hosting fun events for the community!
